New Mazda CX-9 Earns Top Safety Pick+ Rating

Mazda has always been a name associated with affordable quality and reliable innovation. For the 2017 model year, Mazda engineers went back to the drawing board to improve the 2017 CX-9 model year over its predecessor – and succeeded. The new Mazda CX-9 for 2017 earned the highest-possible safety rating from the IIHS, resulting in the Top Safety Pick+ title.

In recent years, in order to adapt to swiftly changing technology, the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety has been gradually changing qualifications for the title in order to make them stricter. For 2017, not only do vehicles that take home the Top Safety Pick+ title have to earn top marks in every single crash category, but they also have to be equipped with front crash prevention technology. The 2017 Mazda CX-9 made changes to how its side-curtain airbags deployed, allowing them to more effectively protect passengers in the crossover.

The new Mazda CX-9 not only represents a continuation of the brand’s commitment to quality, innovation, and excellence but also family-friendly safety. If you’re looking for a spacious, three-row crossover that will keep your family secure, come to Bakersfield Mazda and we can show you our inventory of the new Mazda CX-9 today.

Mazda Crossovers: The New Face of Family Cars

red 2017 Mazda CX-5 - Mazda crossovers as family cars

For the longest time, minivans were considered to be the face of family cars. However, that landscape is changing, and Mazda has everything to do with that. Crossovers are fast becoming the new family car, and Mazda is at the forefront of this charge. Explore the Mazda crossovers today to see what makes them so great.

One of the primary benefits to driving a Mazda crossover is that the gas mileage is significantly better than other options for families. Take, for example, the 2017 Mazda CX-5. The new Mazda CX-5 gets an impressive EPA-estimated 31 MPG on the highway, which makes it great both for commutes as well as longer road trips.

In addition to excellent efficiency, the CX-5 also features plenty of space for people with families. The CX-5 was designed with passengers in mind, which is why it features more than enough room for entry and exit, available heated rear seats, rear air conditioning vents, and USB ports in both the front and the rear of the car.

As far as family vehicles are concerned, there’s no need to look any further than the Mazda crossovers. Come down to Bakersfield Mazda to look through your options. Your family will thank you.

New Year’s Driving Tips: Don’t Drink and Drive

Celebrating on New Years Eve - Bakersfield, CANew Year’s is right around the corner, one of the biggest celebrations of the holiday season. However, it is also considered one of the most dangerous holidays, largely because of bad weather conditions and drunk drivers. More than 95 million Americans are set to be on the road this holiday season, and almost half of the car accidents on New Year’s Eve and Day are due to impaired driving. Read on to learn New Year’s driving tips.

First and foremost, don’t drink and drive. You’ve heard it a thousand times, but even if you have one drink, make sure you have a ride home. According to the Huffington Post, Alcohol is directly linked to 42 percent of traffic deaths in the US, and that number surges during the holiday season. That’s because alcohol slows brain activity, reducing reaction time and increasing the likelihood that you’ll fall asleep behind the wheel. If possible, get a designated driver, and suggest a rotating calendar (switch DDs every year so no one is forced to do it all the time).

Next, if you are driving home, be sure to watch for other drivers. Look for signs like swerving, speeding, and slamming on the brakes. If you notice someone may be intoxicated, slow down, pull to the side of the road, and call the police. If you are giving a ride to others, make sure to set ground rules to make sure you’re not distracted.

Finally, don’t fall for myths. For instance, coffee does not sober you up. Though you might feel energetic briefly, this is simply the result of caffeine. The only cure for intoxication is time—you simply have to wait until the alcohol leaves your system. For most, one drink takes at least an hour to break down (one beer, one shot, or one glass of wine). However, these rates really vary depending on your muscle mass. To play it safe, if alcohol touches your lips, plan on getting a ride. If the worst comes to worst, call a taxi or Uber home.

Bakersfield Mazda wishes everyone a very SAFE and fun New Years!

What Is an IIHS Safety Award?

An IIHS Safety Award is always a big honor. That’s why Mazda is proud to have multiple awards from the IIHS. But what exactly is an IIHS Safety Award?

IIHS stands for the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Each year, they do studies to evaluate the safety of cars on the market. It takes into account two different aspects of safety.

First, it considers crashworthiness, which determines how well a vehicle can protect a driver and passengers in a crash. The outcome is based on five different tests and is given a rating of good, acceptable, marginal, or poor. The five different tests are conducted in moderate overlap front, small overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraints.

The Mazda CX-3 was just one of the Mazda vehicles that took home the IIHS Safety Award.

Crash avoidance and mitigation is also considered, which analyzes technology that can prevent a crash in the first place or lessen the severity of a crash. Crash prevention systems can be rated basic, advanced, or superior.

Some Mazdas that have taken home IIHS awards in the past year are:

2014 MAZDA3 Five-Door

2014 Mazda3

Mazda has released its redesigned 2014 MAZDA3. This car is available as either a sedan or five-door hatchback and features a striking new design, a comfortable interior, and a sporty driving feel.

Edmunds.com says the MAZDA3 hatchback “is easily our favorite hatchback in this class.”

Despite being a car designed for those who are relatively economically-minded, the MAZDA3 features an upscale interior that feels luxurious and high-tech. Because of the MAZDA3’s remarkable new technology features, including a vivid seven-inch color touchscreen, Edmunds continues its review by comparing the MAZDA3 to not only to a Mercedes, but to an Audi and BMW, as well.

The 2014 MAZDA3 is available in five trims ranging from the base i Sport model to the top-of-the-line, s Grand Touring trim. There are two engines to choose from. The base engine is a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine that makes 155 horsepower. A more powerful 184-horsepower 2.5-liter, four-cylinder can get you to 60 mph in less than 8 seconds. Both engines are part of Mazda’s efficiency-boosting SKYACTIV technology.

Mazda’s Triple Threat Scores Triple the Best Value Awards

There’s a good reason why the Mazda3, Mazda6, and CX-5 have been dubbed Mazda’s “triple threat.” These three models are responsible for over 80 percent of last year’s sales, and they recently received Best Value Awards from Kiplinger’s Personal Finance.

In Kiplinger’s Annual Car Buyer’s Guide, the company ranks vehicles according to their performance, safety, and overall value including residual pricing and fuel economy.

As redesigned models, the 2014 Mazda3 i Sport and Mazda6 i Sport won Best New Car Under $20,000 and Best New Car $20,000 – $25,000, respectively.

The 2014 Mazda CX-5 Touring took home the award for Best in Class – Small Crossover. Best in Class vehicles have been in production for at least a year or are built with a powertrain very similar to the one used in previous model years.

“Mazda had a really strong showing this year,” said Jessica Anderson, associate editor at Kiplinger’s.

“Both the Mazda3 and Mazda6 redesigns are fantastic examples of what a carmaker can (and should) do with a mainstream model – they’re engagingly designed, far more upscale than you’d think from their price tags and a blast to drive. And the CX-5 is without a doubt the most fun in the crossover segment. It packs all the safety and space you look for in an SUV but has the soul of a sports car. Zoom-Zoom, indeed.”

Mazda Car Technology Earns Mazda6 Popular Mechanic’s ‘Car of the Year’ Award

Mazda6 Car of the Year

The 2014 Mazda6 was named Popular Mechanics’ “ Car of the Year ” and for very good reason.

The Mazda6 ties a neat bow on a well put together package. Its innovative technology makes it possible for the highest safety ratings, the latest in available infotainment features, its sleek styling with bold curves, the practical cabin and its fun-to-drive performance with fuel efficiency reaching up to 40 mpg on the highway to be rolled into one dynamic vehicle.

With retail pricing starting just under $22,000 including the destination fee, how could the 2014 Mazda6 be named anything but “Car of the Year”?

Admittedly, we might be just a teensy bit biased; so don’t just take our word for it. Here’s what Jim Meigs, Popular Mechanics’ editor-in-chief had to say:

“At Popular Mechanics, we love it when bold engineering and great design come together. The Mazda6 really impressed us with how well it delivers so many things modern car owners want: great mileage, fun road-handling, upscale features and looks—and remarkable value.”

Do you believe us now? Stop by Bakersfield Mazda today to see for yourself all the “ Car of the Year ” has to offer.

Thankful for Our Mazda Awards and Accomplishments

‘Tis the season to be thankful. And at Bakersfield Mazda, we have oh so many reasons. Here is just a sampling of our many Mazda Awards, highlights and successes so far in 2013.

Lauren of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, is happily cruising in her new 2013 Mazda3. With her purchase a few weeks ago, she became the proud owner of both her first new car and Mazda’s 10 millionth vehicle sold in the U.S. It was a momentous day neither she nor we will forget.

Mazda’s 2014 Mazda6 received an “Advanced” safety score, the highest rating in new tests administered by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Mazda’s new i-ActivSense driver-assistance technology secured Mazda’s top 20 finish among a test class of 74 vehicles.

Of course, we’re excited about the new Mazdas models we have to offer you, but we always enjoy looking back at some of our older, trusty models as well. Two celebrities are holding tight to their Mazdas with history. Alfred Morris, starting running back for the Washington Redskins still drives his 1991 Mazda 626, although it recently underwent a reconstructive surgery. Down-to-earth Game of Thrones writer, George R. R. Martin, prefers his Mazda RX-7.

As we reflect during this Thanksgiving month, we can’t help but be grateful for a successful year. With two months left, we can’t wait to see what other accomplishments we’ll be able to add to the list before 2014.

Mazda3 Breaks Mazda Records

Since the 1970’s, Mazda has been selling lots of cars in North America. Just recently, on Tuesday, October 22, 2013, Mazda reached a great milestone of selling their 10 millionth vehicle in the United States.

Mazda3

Mazda was nothing but ecstatic and had to have the 10 millionth Mazda car sold added to their Mazda heritage collection. The 10th million vehicle sold was a 2013 Mazda3. The customer who purchased the small car was then upgraded to a 2014 Mazda3 for free, so that the 2013 Mazda could be added to the collection.

In 2004 the first ever Mazda3 was launched and has been a success ever since. As a whole Mazda Motor Corp. has set aspiring goals for the small and safe vehicle which were just released. This year, Mazda plans to sell 500,000 Mazda3 vehicles alone. Mazda is confident their sales goals are attainable seeing that the Mazda3 contributed to 30% of sold Mazda vehicles last year.

The newly designed 2014 Mazda3 has become a top segment leader. With greater fuel economy, innovative technology, top safety features, comfort and style, there is not much to complain about the all new Mazda3. Stop by your local Bakersfield Mazda dealership in Bakersfield, CA today and take the Mazda3 car for a test drive!

IIHS Ranks Mazda3 as a Top Safety, Rating 10, Small Car Pick

2013 is here and well into the year. With winter about to take place, are you considering a new car, truck or suv? Today, small cars are becoming more popular with the rising gas prices, but hopefully safety at the top of your “must have” list. In 2012 there were 25,580 fatal crashes. These accidents occurred from drunk driving, speeding, distractions and bad weather. Mazda engineers have recognized this tragedy and wanted to create a small fuel efficient car the drivers and passengers can feel safe in. This year, the Mazda3 tops the Insurance Institute Highway Safety (IIHS) lists Top Safety Picks for small cars.

It is rare to have a 10 point rating from the IIHS rankings. Taking into consideration the toughest safety tests including moderate overlap frontal crash, small overlap frontal crash, side impact, rollover and rear impact, the car must score a good score in all areas of occupant protection in the moderate overlap frontal test, side impact, rollover and rear tests. Car models can rank anywhere from poor, marginal, acceptable to good marks. The Mazda3 has past all of these test with flying colors and has received a 10 for a combination other features including top performance, quality, reliability, style, technology and comfort.

MSN Auto reviews the small car with top safety ratings, fuel saving SkyActive technology, great power, style, comfort and more.
