Mazda Crossovers: The New Face of Family Cars

red 2017 Mazda CX-5 - Mazda crossovers as family cars

For the longest time, minivans were considered to be the face of family cars. However, that landscape is changing, and Mazda has everything to do with that. Crossovers are fast becoming the new family car, and Mazda is at the forefront of this charge. Explore the Mazda crossovers today to see what makes them so great.

One of the primary benefits to driving a Mazda crossover is that the gas mileage is significantly better than other options for families. Take, for example, the 2017 Mazda CX-5. The new Mazda CX-5 gets an impressive EPA-estimated 31 MPG on the highway, which makes it great both for commutes as well as longer road trips.

In addition to excellent efficiency, the CX-5 also features plenty of space for people with families. The CX-5 was designed with passengers in mind, which is why it features more than enough room for entry and exit, available heated rear seats, rear air conditioning vents, and USB ports in both the front and the rear of the car.

As far as family vehicles are concerned, there’s no need to look any further than the Mazda crossovers. Come down to Bakersfield Mazda to look through your options. Your family will thank you.

Mazda CX-5 Design and Technology Gets Upgrades for 2017 Model Year

The new Mazda CX-5 is back, with an innovative new design and some high-tech gadgets. This model is renowned for its bold and sporty styling, as well as its capable powertrain and comfortable interior. However, the new 2017 model year is getting some exciting upgrades that you won’t want to miss. Read on to see what’s new for the 2017 CX-5.

Mazda CX-5 design and technology upgrades begin with the new looks. According to CarScoops, the exterior is getting some slight, yet noticeable changes. This includes a more refined look, with sharper contours, and distinct lighting. It also gets an additional 10mm in width—for improved stability and a more athletic look—as well as a new grille. The A-pillars have been pushed back by 35mm, and a redesigned roofline is truly inspired.

In terms of technology, the new CX-5 is getting things like a 7-inch display on top of the dash—a look inspired by Mercedes-Benz—and an available Bose premium sound system. You also get the Mazda Connect system with smartphone integration, letting you easily access apps, music, media, and more.

Finally, the CX-5 is more convenient than ever thanks to some intelligent safety systems. These include things like Mazda Radar Cruise Control, which lets you set a distance as well as a speed so you don’t have to turn cruise on and off for slow cars on the highway. A torque vectoring system improved performance based on steering inputs, and available Traffic Sign Recognition can actually read road and safety signs to give you info. Here at Bakersfield Mazda, we can’t wait to see the new Mazda CX-5 in action.

Three Mazda Cars Receive IIHS Top Safety Pick+ Rating

Mazda6 - Bakersfield, CA

The Mazda6 is one of three models that earned the prestigious IIHS Top Safety Pick+ designation

Every year, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) rates every single new vehicle for its overall safety and is widely considered one of the strictest and most well-regarded safety rating systems in the nation. The top honor is the IIHS Top Safety Pick+, and it just so happens that, for 2016, not one, not two, but three Mazda models have earned this renowned award.

The Mazda CX-5, the Mazda3 and the Mazda6 have each received the IIHS Top Safety Pick+. You might see some vehicles with the rating “Top Safety Pick,” which is still a great achievement, but it’s missing that special little plus-sign at the end. That symbol indicates that these models haven’t just met the IIHS’s standards for ultimate safety, but have gone above and beyond.

Mazda’s i-ACTIVESENSE Collision-Prevention system is just one of the many reasons for the automaker’s big wins. This system includes Mazda Radar Cruise Control, Smart City Brake Support for low speeds, and Smart Brake Support for high speeds.

Congratulations to Mazda for its three huge victories! And congrats to you if you happen to drive any one of these awesome vehicles.

Best of the Year: Mazda Highlights of 2014

Each year, various carmakers meet different milestones and leave behind certain legacies that they will be remembered for. Mazda certainly had a good year, and now that it’s over, we thought it would be good to take a trip down memory lane to see just what the automaker’s year involved. Check out Bakersfield Mazda’s Mazda highlights of 2014!

2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata Debuts

After 11 years of the third-generation MX-5 Miata, Mazda finally unveiled the 2016 model, which would be the first in the sports car’s fourth generation, at a Duran Duran concert back in September. The new Miata weighs in at 220 pounds lighter than the previous generation, which will surely make for better efficiency and faster pickup. The 2016 model is still recognizable as a Miata—just with a lower front end and sleeker lines.

Introduction of the Mazda CX-3

Towards the end of 2014, Mazda unveiled the new CX-3—a small crossover that slots just underneath the existing CX-5. The CX-5 made its debut at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show to much applause—which is unsurprising, given its dashing good looks and rumored ultra-efficiency. We won’t see the production version of the CX-3 until next year, but we’re sure excited now we know what to expect!

Mazda2: Japan’s Car of the Year

In October, the Mazda2 was declared Japan’s Car of the Year, narrowly beating out the Mercedes-Benz C-Class. The award was given to the redesigned hatchback, making it the fifth Mazda model to win the award, and the third in three years. The new Mazda2 is fitted with SKYACTIV technology to increase fuel efficiency and boost output. We can expect to see it here sometime next year!

Mazda Miata Marriage Proposal

You may have heard of a 21-gun salute, but what about a 44-Miata marriage proposal?  Many men work hard to find creative ways to propose, but, at least in the automotive world, Colin Burgess’s proposal may take the cake.

Recently, aerial photographer Burgess decided to propose to his girlfriend, Caitlin, with the help of 44 Mazda Miatas. Burgess had the Miatas spell out “Marry Me?” and then flew his aerial photography drone overhead while his girlfriend watched the camera. After realizing the question was for her, she said yes.

Miata marriage proposal

According to a CNN interview, the couple had their first date in his red 1992 Miata, which he used to form part of the “M” in “Marry.”

Everybody loves a Miata; however, with a baby on the way, the couple may need to upgrade to something a bit bigger. Perhaps a Mazda CX-5 or CX-9 is in their future.

Here at Bakersfield Mazda we want to congratulate the happy couple and wish them a lifetime of happiness together.

Mazda Has Lowest Five-Year Cost to Own

Nobody likes to pay more for a car than they have to, but sometimes even if a car has a lower sticker price it may end up costing you more in fuel, insurance, or other normal costs of ownership. Each year, Kelley Blue Book compiles a list of the cars with the lowest five-year cost to own and for the second year in a row, the Mazda brand came out on top.

The 2014 Mazda3

“New-car shoppers naturally want to know how much a car will cost upfront; however, sometimes an even more expensive car can actually save you money during the first five years of ownership,” said Dan Ingle, vice president of vehicle valuations for Kelley Blue Book, in a statement. KBB’s list “evaluates the other out-of-pocket expenses drivers will incur, which helps consumers choose the vehicle that fits them and their wallets best, helping save money down the road.”

KBB found that Mazda generally had low transaction prices, low depreciation, and “ranked among the lowest in fuel and insurance costs.” Leading Mazda’s victory were the Mazda3, Mazda6, and the CX-5 crossover.

So, if you’re looking for a quality vehicle that won’t break the bank and offers the lowest five-year cost to own, come visit us at Bakersfield Mazda and find the new Mazda car that fits your lifestyle

Three Mazda 2014 Models Receive Top Safety Ratings

As you drive in your 2014 Mazda3, Mazda6, or CX-5 from Bakersfield Mazda, rest assured that your vehicle is tested and proven to keep you safe wherever you go. These three vehicles were awarded with “Top Safety Pick+” distinctions by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

Mazda 2014 Models

In a year with new, more stringent criteria, three of Mazda 2014 Models were among only 22 to earn the title of “Top Safety Pick+”, giving Mazda’s brand the second-highest number of safety honors in the industry.

The automaker attributes much of this success to its exclusive SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY, which strives to optimize fuel-efficient performance of the gasoline engine.

“A redesign is not simply a matter of changing a vehicle’s sheet metal draping but involves dramatically altering its insides, outsides and everything in between to make that vehicle not only look great but be more efficient, more powerful and, most importantly, safer,” said Jim O’Sullivan, president and CEO for Mazda North American Operations.

“With our new fleet of SKYACTIV vehicles, the 2014 Mazda3, Mazda6 and CX-5 were created to be the best in their segments from fuel economy and safety to dynamics and performance, and having earned Top Safety Pick+ distinctions is further proof to their success.”

Mazda plans to implement SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY in each of its new models.

So sit back and relax, knowing you can enjoy a nice, safe ride in Mazda 2014 models.

New 2014 Mazda CX-5: What a Difference a Year Makes

Now, we all know last year’s Mazda CX-5 was a really good model; but the new 2014 Mazda CX-5 is exceptional.

This crossover SUV fuses more of everything you want from your SUV into a compact physique. In its second year, the Mazda CX-5 has more horsepower, more torque, less weight and more features available in its technology package.

In fact, here at Bakersfield Mazda, we’re proud to announce the new 2014 CX-5 with its 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and SKYACTIV-G technology is already Mazda’s second best-selling vehicle across America.

What exactly makes this year’s model so great? And what do all those numbers mean?

While the original CX-5 was equipped with a 2.0-liter engine, Mazda’s 2014 2.5-liter model allows for a more powerful engine with 29 additional horsepower and a 23 percent increase in torque. This provides drivers with more agility and control as they navigate the road without compromising safety. For the first time, Mazda’s Smart City Brake Support is now offered in the technology package.

These improvements are thanks to Mazda’s SKYACTIV-G technology, a technology designed to supply Mazda vehicles with the necessary power in a smaller, lighter engine maintaining fuel efficiency. Mazda’s 2014 CX-5 still travels at 25 miles per gallon in the city, 32 on the highway making it a competitor even among hybrid SUV models.

Mazda’s dedication to develop vehicles “carefully engineered to eliminate compromise” brings you the Mazda 2014 CX-5, known to experts, like Mike Hanley of Cars.com, as “one of the most fun-to-drive models in the class.”

But don’t take his word for it; come check out the 2014 CX-5 for yourself. Our Bakersfield Mazda staff will be happy to provide additional details about the CX-5’s offerings.
