Fuel Efficiency Tips

Fuel Efficiency Tips - 2017 Mazda Lineup

Every driver strives to save money and taking the steps to increase your fuel efficiency is the way to do just that. Here are some fuel efficiency tips from us here at Bakersfield Mazda!

Drive the Speed Limit

Speed limits are a safety precaution recommended by the government, but they also help conserve fuel. Driving 55 mph instead of 70 mph can increase fuel economy by more than five percent! That’s quite a pretty penny in savings over the course of an hour-long drive.

Maintain Your Vehicle

Automotive manufacturers generally recommend maintaining your vehicle to avoid major problems, but there’s another benefit as well. Properly maintaining your vehicle by performing routine oil changes and tire rotations can help improve fuel economy. Fresh oil and a tune up allows the engine to operate at peak performance while tire rotations offer a smoother ride with more traction.

There are plenty of ways to improve your vehicle’s efficiency. Start by checking out the manufacturer-recommended service schedule found in your owner’s manual.

Drive Smarter

Running to the grocery store then returning home only to head out across town once more is a waste of fuel. Combining your trips, such as going to the grocery store, post office, and picking your kids up from school, can help save fuel on a day-to-day basis. Drive smarter by combining your trips to travel fewer miles.

2016 MX-5 Miata Is on Its Way (Almost) with Greater Fuel Efficiency

As we wait for the arrival of the 2016 MX-5 Miata, we have more good news to share about the all-new roadster. Equipped with Mazda’s expertly engineered SKYACTIV Technology, the car looks great as it zips by the previous manual transmission model with 25% greater fuel efficiency.

2016 MX-5 Miata

The MX-5 comes standard with the SKYACTIV-G 2.0-liter engine and SKYACTIV-MT six-speed manual transmission for an EPA-estimated 30 miles per gallon, combined — 27 mpg city and 34 mpg highway. Outfitted with the available automatic transmission, the MX-5 kicks up its highway efficiency to 36 mpg.

“SKYACTIV Technology is more than a catchphrase for Mazda; it’s a total effort to increase efficiency, improve performance, safety and technology and instill each Mazda vehicle with a directness and responsiveness that’s unmatched in the segments in which our vehicles compete,” said president and CEO of Mazda North American Operations, Jim O’Sullivan. “The 2016 MX-5 shows that a sports car can hit all targets today’s buyers want.”

As part of Mazda’s incorporation of the SKYACTIV Technology, the automaker used its “Gram Strategy” to shed 150 pounds from 2016 MX-5, while increasing the strength and safety of the vehicle.

Production for the 2016 MX-5 Miata began on April 20, so it won’t be long now before we finally get a chance to see the all-new model up close and personal. Stay tuned for news of its arrival. We at Bakersfield Mazda are pretty sure you’ll want to come visit us.

Mazda Car Technology Earns Mazda6 Popular Mechanic’s ‘Car of the Year’ Award

Mazda6 Car of the Year

The 2014 Mazda6 was named Popular Mechanics’ “ Car of the Year ” and for very good reason.

The Mazda6 ties a neat bow on a well put together package. Its innovative technology makes it possible for the highest safety ratings, the latest in available infotainment features, its sleek styling with bold curves, the practical cabin and its fun-to-drive performance with fuel efficiency reaching up to 40 mpg on the highway to be rolled into one dynamic vehicle.

With retail pricing starting just under $22,000 including the destination fee, how could the 2014 Mazda6 be named anything but “Car of the Year”?

Admittedly, we might be just a teensy bit biased; so don’t just take our word for it. Here’s what Jim Meigs, Popular Mechanics’ editor-in-chief had to say:

“At Popular Mechanics, we love it when bold engineering and great design come together. The Mazda6 really impressed us with how well it delivers so many things modern car owners want: great mileage, fun road-handling, upscale features and looks—and remarkable value.”

IIHS Ranks Mazda3 as a Top Safety, Rating 10, Small Car Pick

2013 is here and well into the year. With winter about to take place, are you considering a new car, truck or suv? Today, small cars are becoming more popular with the rising gas prices, but hopefully safety at the top of your “must have” list. In 2012 there were 25,580 fatal crashes. These accidents occurred from drunk driving, speeding, distractions and bad weather. Mazda engineers have recognized this tragedy and wanted to create a small fuel efficient car the drivers and passengers can feel safe in. This year, the Mazda3 tops the Insurance Institute Highway Safety (IIHS) lists Top Safety Picks for small cars.

It is rare to have a 10 point rating from the IIHS rankings. Taking into consideration the toughest safety tests including moderate overlap frontal crash, small overlap frontal crash, side impact, rollover and rear impact, the car must score a good score in all areas of occupant protection in the moderate overlap frontal test, side impact, rollover and rear tests. Car models can rank anywhere from poor, marginal, acceptable to good marks. The Mazda3 has past all of these test with flying colors and has received a 10 for a combination other features including top performance, quality, reliability, style, technology and comfort.

MSN Auto reviews the small car with top safety ratings, fuel saving SkyActive technology, great power, style, comfort and more. New 2014 Mazda CX-5: What a Difference a Year Makes

Now, we all know last year’s Mazda CX-5 was a really good model; but the new 2014 Mazda CX-5 is exceptional.

This crossover SUV fuses more of everything you want from your SUV into a compact physique. In its second year, the Mazda CX-5 has more horsepower, more torque, less weight and more features available in its technology package.

In fact, here at Bakersfield Mazda, we’re proud to announce the new 2014 CX-5 with its 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and SKYACTIV-G technology is already Mazda’s second best-selling vehicle across America.

What exactly makes this year’s model so great? And what do all those numbers mean?

While the original CX-5 was equipped with a 2.0-liter engine, Mazda’s 2014 2.5-liter model allows for a more powerful engine with 29 additional horsepower and a 23 percent increase in torque. This provides drivers with more agility and control as they navigate the road without compromising safety. For the first time, Mazda’s Smart City Brake Support is now offered in the technology package.

These improvements are thanks to Mazda’s SKYACTIV-G technology, a technology designed to supply Mazda vehicles with the necessary power in a smaller, lighter engine maintaining fuel efficiency. Mazda’s 2014 CX-5 still travels at 25 miles per gallon in the city, 32 on the highway making it a competitor even among hybrid SUV models.

Mazda’s dedication to develop vehicles “carefully engineered to eliminate compromise” brings you the Mazda 2014 CX-5, known to experts, like Mike Hanley of Cars.com, as “one of the most fun-to-drive models in the class.”

But don’t take his word for it; come check out the 2014 CX-5 for yourself. Our Bakersfield Mazda staff will be happy to provide additional details about the CX-5’s offerings.

Mazda 6 is a Top Safety Pick+ Winner

2014 Mazda 6

2014 Mazda 6 wins IHHS Top Safety Pick

If you are looking for a safe car to drive your family around to their many activities, then the 2014 Mazda 6 is the perfect pick for you!  It is not only good looking, powerful and efficient, but it was named a Top Safety Pick+ winner from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

This is a great achievement for Mazda since the Mazda 6 is now one of only four in its category that has received this honor so far this year.  Also, the Top Safety Pick+ rating has become stricter in the last year due to the new small overlap test.  In order to win a Top Safety Pick+ award, each car must receive a rating of Good in four out of the five tests and no less than an Acceptable rating in the fifth test.

The Mazda 6 received good safety ratings for a number of standard and available safety features.  The standard features on every Mazda 6 include an Anti-lock Brake System with Brake Assist, Roll Stability Control, Dynamic Stability Control, Traction Control and a tire pressure monitoring system.  It also has a SKYACTIVE body and SKYACTIVE chassis.  These are both designed to increase the strength and rigidity while keeping the cars weight down.

A number of intuitive safety features are available on the Mazda 6.  Blind Spot Monitoring can detect other drivers in those hard-to-see areas and sounds a warning chime and light to notify you.  The Smart City Brake Support helps apply brake pressure when a frontal collision is imminent.  Finally, Rear Cross Traffic Alert helps you to identify objects behind your car.

The Mazda 6 offers drivers the whole package, sporty good looks, fuel efficiency, performance and Top Safety Pick+ safety features, all at an affordable price.  The 2014 Mazda 6 is now available at our dealership, Bakersfield Mazda.  You can contact their friendly sales staff to find out more information or to set up a test drive.
