Have a Fun Easter in Bakersfield, California!

As we move into the spring season, Easter is just around the corner. As one of the most fun holidays for the family, everyone wants to create an Easter holiday that the kids will remember forever. That’s why we’ve put together this article for what to do for Easter in Bakersfield, California.

Bakersfield Easter Egg Hunt

For an experience that is both memorable and free, look no further than the Bakersfield Easter Egg Hunt. Held on April 15th, 2017 from 10:30am-12:00pm, there will be over 5,000 eggs to hunt for children between ages 2-12. It will be located at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center at 1000 S. Owens.

Easter at Home

In addition to the community event, you’ll more than likely plan some fun activities at your own home as well. While these activities are great, the clean up can be a bit of a mess.

If you find yourself with fake grass littered all across your home, it’s actually a quick and simple cleanup. All that you need to do is take a lint roller and run it across all the surfaces in your home.

All of us here at Bakersfield Mazda hope that you have a wonderful Easter in Bakersfield, California!

2016 Mazda CX-3

2016 Mazda CX-3

Mazda received three Automotive Brand Contest Awards for its Bike by KODO concept and the CX-3, as well as a grand prize for the KODO Design language. The ABC, sponsored by the German Design Council, is a prestigious contest that recognizes outstanding automotive design.

The Mazda team also won the Team of the Year Award, an award given to teams whose designs are consistent and innovative. According to a member of the German Design Council, Mazda’s team are not required to “define a form language,” but instead produce unique designs that still “express lively emotion.”

The awards from the Automotive Brand Contest follow from the recognition Mazda received during the Milan Design Week, which featured a Cars as Art segment including the Bike by KODO concept. The KODO concept was recognized in the Parts & Accessories category at Milan Design Week.

Ikuo Maeda, Executive Officer and Design Chief of Mazda’s Design Division, says his team will continue to “create dynamic and energetic designs that will excite our customers.” Bakersfield Mazda is proud to be part of a company that is innovative yet also stays true to its roots and beliefs.  Tell us what you think of Mazda’s Automotive Brand Contests!

2016 Mazda6 Infotainment System Gets a Refresh before Heading to LA

Imagine getting in your car each the morning and your infotainment system brews a hot cup of coffee. That’s before giving you a short but effective motivational speech peppered with quotes from the Dalai Lama. Or maybe it just drives the car for you while you catch a few more winks.

While we’re not quite there yet, you should know that the 2016 Mazda6 will be outfitted with a new and improved infotainment system. This comes after the Mazda3’s system had already been improved. Now it looks like the Mazda6 infotainment system will be inheriting a lot of those improvements, including a new, standalone setup and a newer interface.

It will be interesting to see how different the interface is from the 2015 model shown here.

Other changes the new Mazda6 will undergo are aesthetic tweaks to the front-end and “brightwork around the lower bodywork,” according to Motor Authority.

The refreshed Mazda6 is debuted at the LA Auto Show last week and we here at Bakersfield Mazda couldn’t have been more excited to see these improvements highlighted by Mazda themselves!

Best Gifts for High School Graduates

As the end of the school year fast approaches, you may be thinking about the soon-to-be high school graduate in your life. Whether this is your own child, a grandchild, niece, nephew, or just a close friend, getting them a graduation gift can be a great way to show them you care and give them a great start in their college career. Here are ten of the best gifts for high school graduates.

  • Car. A car is a great way to send your budding academic into the adult world. And, it will make them an immediate hit with the rest of the freshman class. Come visit us at Bakersfield Mazda and we’ll give you a great deal on a quality used or new car.

Best Value Award

  • Bicycle. If you can’t afford a car, a bicycle is a fantastic alternative to a car. Not only will it get them from point A to point B, but it is a great form of exercise.
  • Gift card. Do a little research and find out what stores are close to where they’ll be headed this fall and get them a gift card. If they’ll be taking a car, a gas card is a great option that is guaranteed to be used.
  • Noise cancelling headphones. These are great for studying in dorms. They cut out all the extra noise and will help your student focus on their work.
  • Laptop. The portability of a laptop is essential for many college students.
  • Luggage. Having a quality suitcase is a great option for students, especially those who “go away” to college and will be travelling frequently.
  • Games. While board games may seem old-school, they are a simple way to create a fun night and possibly make a few new friends.
  • Digital camera. Of course, many people use their smartphones to take pictures, having a quality digital camera may encourage your student to take a few more quality pictures to send home.
  • Alarm clock. Waking up for those 8 AM classes can be quite a challenge, so getting them a reliable alarm clock (instead of just using their phone) may help. Take a look at this rolling alarm clock that only lets you hit the snooze once before it rolls out of reach.
  • Cash. If all else fails, give your graduate some cash. They can always use to buy a book or two for their upcoming classes.

How will you be celebrating the high school graduate in your life?

Mazda’s Next Generation of SkyActiv Engines Even Greener

Currently, Mazda produces some of the most fuel-efficient vehicles on the road, and it doesn’t have a single hybrid or electric vehicle in its lineup. What it does have, however, is SkyActiv Technology. This collection of fuel-saving features is going to get even better with the next generation of SkyActiv engines.

Skyactiv Engines

Mazda says the new SkyActiv Engines won’t be available until 2020. Will the Mazda cars of the future look anything like this 2014 CX-5?

According to an interview with Autocar, Mazda says the future technology, known as SkyActiv-G Generation 2, could be as much as 30 percent more efficient than its current design and may produce fewer CO2 emissions than electric cars.

You might be thinking, “How can a gasoline-powered car emit less CO2 than an electric car with no emissions?” Well, you have to remember that the electricity needed to power an electric car has to come from somewhere. And, most power companies emit CO2 while producing electricity. The phrase “well-to-wheel” takes into consideration emissions from the entire lifecycle of a vehicle.

Mazda’s new engine will achieve this efficiency by using something called homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI), which has a high compression ratio of 18:1. This makes the gasoline engine work in a similar way to a diesel engine by using piston compression instead of a spark plug.

When will these new engines come out? Mazda says we will most likely see them before 2020. Here at Bakersfield Mazda, we’ll be on the lookout for more information, so check back again for any updates.
