Since 2006, Mazda has gotten to combine two of its favorite things: helping talented young racers achieve greatness, and speed. The Mazda Road to 24 Shootout, taking place this year at Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, SC over the weekend of November 8th, is a competition meant to identify potential professional racers through a skills showcase and final shootout race.
Recently, Mazda announced their list of 23 semi-finalists for the Mazda Road to 24 Shootout, selected from a range of motor clubs and series. Ultimately, this list will be narrowed down to six to eight racers after business proposals and other assessments are submitted to Mazda. . The skills to be assessed range from speed and technical understanding to off-track public relations acumen; these kids have to have it all.
The winner of the Mazda Road to 24 Shootout will be awarded a $100,000 scholarship to compete in next year’s Battery Tender Mazda MX-5 Cup. And that’s it, there is no second place – talk about a high-stakes racing!
