New Mazda CX-9 Earns Top Safety Pick+ Rating

Mazda has always been a name associated with affordable quality and reliable innovation. For the 2017 model year, Mazda engineers went back to the drawing board to improve the 2017 CX-9 model year over its predecessor – and succeeded. The new Mazda CX-9 for 2017 earned the highest-possible safety rating from the IIHS, resulting in the Top Safety Pick+ title.

In recent years, in order to adapt to swiftly changing technology, the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety has been gradually changing qualifications for the title in order to make them stricter. For 2017, not only do vehicles that take home the Top Safety Pick+ title have to earn top marks in every single crash category, but they also have to be equipped with front crash prevention technology. The 2017 Mazda CX-9 made changes to how its side-curtain airbags deployed, allowing them to more effectively protect passengers in the crossover.

The new Mazda CX-9 not only represents a continuation of the brand’s commitment to quality, innovation, and excellence but also family-friendly safety. If you’re looking for a spacious, three-row crossover that will keep your family secure, come to Bakersfield Mazda and we can show you our inventory of the new Mazda CX-9 today.

2016 Mazda CX-9 - Bakersfield, CA

The 2016 Mazda CX-9 stands at the top of the crossover class.

Mazda recently released the fuel economy figures for its 2016 Mazda CX-9, and its combined rating of 25 mpg is the best-in-class fuel economy for crossovers that are mid-size, three rows, and non-hybrids. This makes the new Mazda CX-9 more than 30% more efficient than its first generation.

Mazda uses its innovative SKYACTIV® platform to build more lightweight vehicles with lower fuel use and higher engine output. The Mazda CX-9 also has a turbocharged engine, which produces more power while using less fuel.

The Mazda CX-9 also has the new Dynamic Pressure Turbo system, which saves fuel by using exhaust gas regulation to cool the engine instead of bringing in new fuel to do it.

Available all-wheel drive lowers the fuel efficiency by a couple miles an hour, but it’s still near the top of the segment. The 2016 Mazda CX-9 produces 250 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque; the horsepower is down a bit from last year’s model, but the added torque makes up for it by delivering better handling and performance.
