Mazda Calls North American Facility ‘Most Important’ Base

Despite being a Japanese company, Mazda Chairman Takashi Yamanouchi called its new North American facility in Mexico, Mazda’s “most important global strategic base.”

The newly-opened assembly factory in Salamanca, Mexico will have an annual production of 230,000 vehicles when it reaches full capacity. This facility is so important that Yamanouchi even said “the very future of the company hinges” on its success.

North American Facility

The Mazda3 is the only Mazda car being built at the Mexico plant currently

This new plant will allow Mazda to hedge against foreign exchange rates that hurt Japanese exports, tap into new markets, and provide a low-cost manufacturing base. This will be Mazda’s only North American manufacturing site. It previously used a site in Flat Rock, Michigan, but stopped production there in 2012.

Currently, the facility is producing the Mazda3 sedan and employs about 3,000 people. It is expected to reach full capacity by the end of March 2016, and by then, it will also produce the Mazda2 hatchback and a similar model for Toyota.

Here at Bakersfield Mazda we are excited to see Mazda making North America such an important part of the company’s global strategy and hope to see Mazda grow even more.

Mazda Has Lowest Five-Year Cost to Own

Nobody likes to pay more for a car than they have to, but sometimes even if a car has a lower sticker price it may end up costing you more in fuel, insurance, or other normal costs of ownership. Each year, Kelley Blue Book compiles a list of the cars with the lowest five-year cost to own and for the second year in a row, the Mazda brand came out on top.

“New-car shoppers naturally want to know how much a car will cost upfront; however, sometimes an even more expensive car can actually save you money during the first five years of ownership,” said Dan Ingle, vice president of vehicle valuations for Kelley Blue Book, in a statement. KBB’s list “evaluates the other out-of-pocket expenses drivers will incur, which helps consumers choose the vehicle that fits them and their wallets best, helping save money down the road.”

KBB found that Mazda generally had low transaction prices, low depreciation, and “ranked among the lowest in fuel and insurance costs.” Leading Mazda’s victory were the Mazda3, Mazda6, and the CX-5 crossover.

2014 MAZDA3 Five-Door

2014 Mazda3

Mazda has released its redesigned 2014 MAZDA3. This car is available as either a sedan or five-door hatchback and features a striking new design, a comfortable interior, and a sporty driving feel.

Edmunds.com says the MAZDA3 hatchback “is easily our favorite hatchback in this class.”

Despite being a car designed for those who are relatively economically-minded, the MAZDA3 features an upscale interior that feels luxurious and high-tech. Because of the MAZDA3’s remarkable new technology features, including a vivid seven-inch color touchscreen, Edmunds continues its review by comparing the MAZDA3 to not only to a Mercedes, but to an Audi and BMW, as well.

The 2014 MAZDA3 is available in five trims ranging from the base i Sport model to the top-of-the-line, s Grand Touring trim. There are two engines to choose from. The base engine is a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine that makes 155 horsepower. A more powerful 184-horsepower 2.5-liter, four-cylinder can get you to 60 mph in less than 8 seconds. Since the 1970’s, Mazda has been selling lots of cars in North America. Just recently, on Tuesday, October 22, 2013, Mazda reached a great milestone of selling their 10 millionth vehicle in the United States.

Mazda was nothing but ecstatic and had to have the 10 millionth Mazda car sold added to their Mazda heritage collection. The 10th million vehicle sold was a 2013 Mazda3. The customer who purchased the small car was then upgraded to a 2014 Mazda3 for free, so that the 2013 Mazda could be added to the collection.

In 2004 the first ever Mazda3 was launched and has been a success ever since. As a whole Mazda Motor Corp. has set aspiring goals for the small and safe vehicle which were just released. This year, Mazda plans to sell 500,000 Mazda3 vehicles alone. Mazda is confident their sales goals are attainable seeing that the Mazda3 contributed to 30% of sold Mazda vehicles last year.

The newly designed 2014 Mazda3 has become a top segment leader. With greater fuel economy, innovative technology, top safety features, comfort and style, there is not much to complain about the all new Mazda3. As an added safety feature, drivers cannot use the touchscreen capability while in motion, but they can still use Mazda Connect through voice commands.

New “Kodo”-Inspired Mazda 3

If you’re a Mazda fan or just someone who appreciates cars, you have to see this.

2014 Mazda3 Redesign

This new model was unveiled last Wednesday—a gloriously redesigned Mazda 3 with a long nose and a new grille that now looks like an attack scowl more than a goofy smile.

The new exterior is the company’s latest iteration of the Kodo design language, which is meant to embody the tension of power and speed caught in motion. Koko means “soul of motion.” This is a departure from the design philosophy in its previous models—“Nagare”—which was inspired by the flow of wind and water.

On the inside, the Mazda 3 also has a lot of new toys, packing tech only rarely found in the compact car segment. It features new navigation and infotainment systems, a rear-view camera, adaptive front lighting, adaptive cruise control, and a lane departure warning system, in addition to a new heads-up display for speed, RPM, and navigation information.
