MX-5 Showdown Pits 90s Miata Against 2015 Model

This history of the Mazda MX-5 is something we here at Bakersfield Mazda greatly respect. 25 years ago, Mazda set out to produce a sporty compact car that was affordable for the masses, but offered the thrill of a much more expensive vehicle. While that was no easy undertaking, almost every automotive expert in the world agrees that they’ve been the most successful at doing it and then keeping that spirit alive even in the newest model, the 2015 Mazda MX-5 Miata (MkIV).

To prove this point more completely than an expert review can, Mazda UK took both the 1990 MX-5 Miata and 2015 MX-5 Miata to the Circuit De Calafat in Catalonia, Spain for an MX-5 showdown. They put expert endurance drivers in both models to eliminate some more variables and then they gave the 1990 model a four-second head start to make it a more fair fight. Since technological advancements alone in the last 25 years would easily make the 2015 MX-5 Miata the victor. Watch the MX-5 Showdown below and see for yourself who wins.

While we can’t test the 1990 model of the MX-5 Miata for ourselves, we would be more than happy to go on a test drive in a new 2015 Mazda MX-5 Miata with you any time!

2016 Mazda CX-5 Continues to Rule the CUV Class

The compact crossover segment might be one of the most popular segments in the world right now, but all the newcomers to the segment are simply late to the Mazda CX-5’s party. The 2016 model of the popular SUV debuted this year at the Los Angeles Auto Show, and the new model definitely increases the nameplate’s lead over the rest of the segment.

2016 Mazda CX-5

The 2016 Mazda CX-5, of course, remains stylistically excellent, thanks to the KODO – Soul of Motion design language that pervades the whole Mazda lineup. The CX-5’s sculpted, shapely exterior makes even better use of that design aesthetic than most models. On top of the design, The CX-5 also comes with tons of features and the Skyactiv Technology engine design that makes Mazda vehicles the zippiest, most efficient vehicles on the road.

In fact, the new CX-5 gets up to 33 mpg on the highway with front-wheel drive design and up to 35 mpg with the six-speed manual transmission. With safety features like the Smart City Brake Support on the Grand Touring Tech Package, you’ll be both safe and in style every time you’re behind the wheel of the new CX-5. Come see us here at Bakersfield Mazda to learn more about this powerful little SUV.
